Accessibility in our Churches

At Bampton with Clanfield we aim to be as accessible as possible in order to welcome and include everyone in our community and in our worship.

St Mary’s Bampton

Toilets: St Mary’s has a disabled toilet which functions as the main church toilet.

Kitchen: St Mary’s has kitchen facilities.

Access: the main body of the church is flat and accessible. The chancel which leads to the High Altar has 3 steps going up. The High Alter is only used for distributing Communion in Sunday morning Communion services. We can bring communion to the main body of the church for anyone unable to go up to the High Altar via the steps. Please do let a sidsperson know if you require this. There is a stone path leading to the church.

Sound: St Mary’s has a sound system with microphones. A hearing aid loop system is active.

Seating: there are 2 designated wheelchair spaces in the pews in the front half of the main body of the church. All of our pews have cushions for comfort.

Please do ask one of our sides people or clergy if you have any questions or require any assistance when attending one of our services.

Parking: there is free parking available surrounding the church (see blue line in picture below)


St Stephen’s Clanfield

Toilets: St Stephen’s has a disabled toilet which functions as the main church toilet.

Kitchen: St Stephen’s has kitchen facilities.

Access: the main body of the church is flat and accessible. The chancel which leads to the High Altar has 2 steps going up. The High Alter is only used for distributing Communion in Sunday morning Communion services. We can bring communion to the main body of the church for anyone unable to go up to the High Altar via the steps. Please do let a sidsperson know if you require this. There is a stone path leading to the church.

St James Aston

Access: the main body of the church is flat and accessible. The chancel which leads to the High Altar has 1 step going up. The High Alter is only used for distributing Communion in Sunday morning Communion services. We can bring communion to the main body of the church for anyone unable to go up to the High Altar via the steps. Please do let a sidsperson know if you require this. There is a stone path leading to the church.

Holy Trinity Lew

Toilets: there are no toilets available at Holy trinity Lew

Kitchen: there are no kitchen facilities at Holy trinity Lew

Access: there are 2 steps leading into the church. The main body of the church is flat and accessible. There is a stone path leading to the church.

Sound: Holy Trinity Lew does not have a sound system

Parking: there is limited free parking available on the street in front the church. This is on a 40mph road so caution is needed when parking. (see blue line in picture below)


St Mary’s Shifford

Toilets: there are no toilets available at St Mary’s Shifford.

Kitchen: there are no kitchen facilities at St Mary’s Shifford.

Access: there is an outside step to enter the church. The main body of the church is flat and accessible. The chancel which leads to the High Altar has 1 step going up. The High Alter is only used for distributing Communion in Sunday morning Communion services. We can bring communion to the main body of the church for anyone unable to go up to the High Altar via the steps. Please do let a sidsperson know if you require this.

St Mary’s is surrounded by grass and there is a downward slope to the church. As such it can be muddy and wet at times throughout the year. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters may struggle.

Sound: St Mary’s Shifford does not have a sound system

Parking: there is free parking available by the side of the church, this is on sloped grass. As well as parking on the street in front of the church. (see blue line in picture below)
